    Without a new approach to testing, incidents like the recent NASDAQ trading glitch and last summer’s Knight Capital mess will inevitably keep popping up and weakening the strength and reputation of our markets. Exchanges need to adopt an approach that tightly integrates testing into development. An iterative process in which testing and development happen in parallel is the only way to ensure that systems are thoroughly tested, and that errors are found and fixed before production.     About me

    Jacob Northey is a software developer and architect with 7 years of experience building and delivering custom electronic trading systems. Jacob has spent the past 6 of those years focusing on messaging protocols for the electronic trading industry. In 2006 he created the first open source FAST implementation, OpenFAST. Since then he has gone on to design and lead a team of developers at Lasalletech in building their FIX Product Suite consisting of four FIX productivity tools. Jacob’s custom solution experience includes developing FIX interfaces for exchanges, exchange connectors for proprietary trading firms, and backend clearing systems.
